Max Silverman is a composer and sound designer who creates the sonic thread between audience and performers, guiding the emotional charge in the space and the breath between lines. Splitting his time between NYC and Colorado, his work spans theatre, film, and immersive experiences.
Max’s work has been praised for its "intriguing sound design" and meticulousness. Director Kenny Moten notes, “Sound design is so important in creating an environment, and Max is one of my favorites because of his attention to detail... He lifts everything up.”
His storyteller-first approach is informed by an understated, human, and experimental ear, crafting sound that feels inevitable rather than imposed. His work has earned him a True West Award, three OnStage Colorado Awards, and nine Henry Award nominations.
When not in the theatre or studio, Max serves as a volunteer first responder with the Boulder Emergency Squad, a technical rescue team serving Boulder County.
My work always begins with story and space. I start with a conversation about intention, a read-through, and a quick palette test to align on the core feeling. From there, the process is collaborative and ever evolving:
Sketch & Refine: I share early sketches and cue concepts, then refine them based on collaborative notes.
Build & Mix: We move from tone tests to scene builds, culminating in recording sessions with Max’s network of world class musicians, full cue sheets and final mixes.
Deliver: For theatre, I lead the process from the first read through opening night. For film, I can deliver focused scenes or a full score on tight timelines, with stems ready for post-production.
Expect clear calendars, rapid iteration, creative collaboration, and a seamless workflow.
